Learn ServiceNow and Become a ServiceNow Developer
In 2003 Fred Luddy, former CTO of Peregrine Systems, saw a need for cloud computing software specifically designed to manage large-scale software distributions to enable internal workflow automation for everyday business practices.
What is ServiceNow?
ServiceNow is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) that provides the infrastructure to run, manage, and automate internal business workflows. The integrated cloud solution comprises three core competencies; Cloud Services, the Now Platform, and Nonstop Cloud, which altogether provide a foundation for more effective work and reduces complexity throughout internal business functions.
- Cloud Services – IT, Security, Customer Service, HR, Intelligent Apps
- Now Platform – Anomaly Detection, Predictive Modeling, Peer Benchmarking, Performance Forecasting, Service Portal, Subscription and Notification, Knowledge Base, Service Catalog, Workflow, Developer Tools, Reports and Dashboards, Single Database, Contextual Collaboration, and Orchestration
- Nonstop Cloud – Multi-Instance, Secure and Compliant, Scalable
The infrastructure provided by ServiceNow offers a configuration management database (CMDB) which allows organizations to completely customize the platform’s user interface (UI) and service map the appropriate dependencies to the respective roles within the business to best suit unique needs.
What is ServiceNow Used For?
ServiceNow provides technical management support and enables cross-departmental automated workflows. The CMDB ServiceNow allows the development of these workflows to be organization and department-specific and all related materials accessible in a single system of record across a multi-instance architecture. Traditional multi-tenant architecture creates a single instance to serve multiple employees, whereas multi-instance architecture provides each unique employee with a unique resource stack.
In multi-instance architecture, the applications, middleware, and databases are all powered by the same hardware, but the context in which the resources are delivered is unique to the departments’ configuration. Even though IT departments will have different applications, middleware, and databases than HR departments, workflows can still be configured to allow cross-departmental productivity.
